Mining has been one of the oldest forms of engineering having its own share of issues while excavating valuable minerals from the earthen crescent. In recent decades, the advent of computational geotechnics has enabled mankind to provide more stable designs for underground and open pit excavations resulting in preventing losses to production. FEM is a method to assess these same geotechnical parameters and provide the most optimized design to a mine layout. Pillars design, portal stability, open pit slopes, stockpile or waste dumps, walls convergence, roof fallouts, ore passes caving in, all these issues can be resolved, and a viable support system can be proposed using these methods.
MIDAS GTS NX is a 3D platform that lets you replicate your mine layout conveniently to assess the current stress situation and rock plasticity status. User can also import their CAD drawings and start right away with powerful meshing tools to analyze the sections and generate reports on their current state. This webinar will focus on open pit slope stability by using Shear Strength Reduction Method and also some further applications on underground mine design.
Chinmoy Pattanaik
Chinmoy joined MIDAS IT in 2019, where he provides geotechnical knowledge in a multi-disciplinary design team, by means of solid numerical, theoretical and technical skills. He has been associated with the mining industry and large infrastructures projects, specializing in design optimization of geotechnical problems using FEM.
