OVERVIEW

about project

The lecture will begin with the basic theory of the simple concept of the constitutive model for soil. He will present the simple mathematical formulation of the linear elastic model and the method to calibrate model parameters from laboratory and field tests. The next part is the basic formulation of the elastoplastic model. Dr. Sompote will summarize the concept in a simple way without complex mathematics.

The state-dependent models will be next summarized, which are soft soil model, hardening soil model, UBC sand model and Nor Sand Model. He also covers the model parameter calibration and optimization of their parameters in the lecture. Then, the application of the element test simulation called the “Soil Test” in Midas GTS NX will follow. It can simulate various tests such as triaxial in different stress paths and one-dimensional compression test in the drain and undrained conditions. Lastly, He will wrap up the presentation with a cases study of model calibrations.

03 Case Study

Pasak River is a major river in central Thailand for water transport. It locates 100 kilometers northern part of Bangkok. Due to the shallow current channel, the riverbed needs to be dredged to increase the river channel. The stability of the river bank had to be improved by a soil-cement column. The front of the wall was a sheet pile to improve the stiffness and erosion resistance of the system. The arrangement of the cement column was a honeycomb pattern to increase its moment of inertia of improved area and cost-effectiveness. We did the simulation by finite
element by considering the stage construction and different constitutive models for cement mixed clay.
